Stokes Professor

As Stokes Professor, primary responsibilities focus on developing the research portfolio of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Dublin Institute of Technology. Emphasis is on the applications of DSP in Information and Communications Technology, from fundamental research through to product development and commercial realization.

Current applications include biomedical signal analysis, audio data processing and financial signal analysis. However, a major component of research is on information and communications security. This includes security issues associated with the design of new encryption algorithms, covert information exchange methods (Steganography), digital watermarking and Digital Rights Management, working in both an academic and commercial context.

Professor Blackledge has experience of teaching, research and management in both the public and private sectors where he has and continues to develop industrial partnerships for taking appropriate university based research products to market. This includes the development of work based learning opportunities and Continuing Professional Development programmes in engineering and management in which Dublin Institute of Technology has an established tradition, the School having the broadest spectrum for the provision of electrical engineering education in Ireland.
